Frequently Asked Questions
-
QWhat is the best time to sell gemstone jewellery??
-
AThe value of gemstone jewellery goes up and down every day, but the market for second-hand gemstone jewellery is booming, so this is the best time to sell. In addition, the valuation proposed by Jewel Cafe is not only based on speculation on the purchase price of the gemstone jewelry, but also considers various background factors of the jewelry item, so we can always recycle at a higher price.
-
QIs there any additional cost involved in purchasing or assessing gemstone jewellery?
-
AOur gemstone jewelry identification service is completely free. Even if you are dissatisfied with the final estimate, we still do not charge any fees. Jewel Cafe is famous for quick store acquisitions, but we also provide free home delivery and on-site acquisition services. Welcome to choose the acquisition method that best suits you.
-
QAny tips for increasing your gemstone jewelry acquisition rate??
-
AIf you bring gemstone jewelry along with other designer items, this will result in a higher assessed price. Combinations such as "jewelry, boutique bags" or "metals, fine watches, diamonds" are no problem. We will propose a 10–20% bonus for simultaneous identification of a large number of items. For details, please contact the store staff.
-
QI have gemstone jewelry that I want to sell. Do I need to make an appointment?
-
AThe appraisal of gemstone jewellery does not require an appointment. Welcome to visit anytime! Jewel Cafe's stores are located in prime locations such as MRT stations and department stores, so you can also stop by when shopping. However, when there are many people, you may have to wait for a while, so in order to conduct appraisal and acquisition more smoothly, it is better to make an appointment in advance.
-
QWon't jewelry stores offer higher appraisal prices??
-
Ait's not true. Only a professional recycling shop like us can offer a higher appraisal price. Jewelry stores only accept trade-in (exchange the value of old jewelry for new jewelry, and recharge if it is not enough), or it is also possible to install the recovered gemstones on another jewelry. On the contrary, Jewel Cafe not only does not reuse the purchased jewelry, but also strives to offer a fairer and more satisfying purchase price.
-
QCan jewelry without warranty be authenticated?
-
AWe also accept jewelry without a warranty! A warranty can indeed enhance the credibility of the jewelry, but Jewel Cafe is constantly looking for the latest research on gemstone verification and market conditions, so we are confident that we can still provide the jewelry without a warranty. Jewelry offers an appraisal price that will satisfy you.

Emerald purchase
Trivia of Emerald
About Emerald purchase
The emeralds that were called Spanish emerald or Peru emerald in Europe were actually produced from Colombia. Colombian emeralds are well known for their gentle and austere green. Although there are secondary blue and yellow hue mixed in it, but it is still close to pure verdant green, and doesn’t have grey which will lower the hue. In term of its color, the green in Columbian emerald is due to the trace amount of chromium, while the green in emerald from Brazil and Zambia is due to the vanadium, this different in the element also cause the green hue to distinct.
Even among the Colombian emerald, the emerald from Muzo mine possess exceptionally gentle color, compared to the other most precious color stones like sapphire from Kashmir and ruby from Mogok, emerald is also the most expensive in comparison of gem quality in 0.5 to 2 carats. It is even said to be more expensive than a round brilliant cut diamond polished from a high-quality raw ore. However, emerald is said to have the most fissures. There are very few fissures when the beryl is still colorless, but when impurities like chromium or vanadium is mixed in and forming the green color, it causes tension during crystallization, forming the fissures in the emerald. To deal with the fissures, most of the emeralds will be soaked in colorless oil or resin, this is called impregnation.
By doing so, the colorless oil or resin will fill up the small gap of the fissures that reach the surface from the internal, enhancing the beauty of the gemstone. There isn’t much issue with the impregnation for make-up purpose as it has been done for few hundred years, but gemstone that underwent high degree of impregnation may looks good at first glance, but the fissure may become more apparent and lose its beauty. Therefore, the size of surface fissures is decisive for the value of emerald.
